Description

This photograph is of the Parliament House Motor Lodge welcome sign in 1975. The sign reads "It[']s a nice day. Smile."

The Parliament House Motor Lodge, originally established in 1962, was purchased by Mike Hodge and Bill Miller after the Orlando tourism industry moved south toward Disney World. Miller and Hodge re-opened the lodge as a gay resort, one of the oldest in the United States. It has served the Orlando LGBTQ+ community since its opening as a gay resort on May 5, 1971, host to a number of pageants, community events, and drag performances.
