Title
KindRED Pride Foundation Collection
Description
This collection documents a selection of events surrounding the annual Red Shirt Pride Day that takes place on the first Saturday of June at Disney's Magic Kingdom. This tradition began in 1991 when a group of gay men who communicated on an online chat board decided to meet at Magic Kingdom and identify themselves by wearing red shirts. The annual tradition has since grown to encompass thousands of LGBTQ individuals and their families. Events documented in this collection include the Red Shirt Pride Day and the Beach Ball (renamed Riptide in 2012), an annual party held at Disney's Typhoon Lagoon.
The collection was donated by the KindRED Pride Foundation, a nonprofit founded by Billy Looper and Tom Christ who are the owners of One Magical Weekend, the company now responsible for organizing the annual party at Typhoon Lagoon among other events that concur with Red Shirt Pride Day. The KindRED Pride Foundation promotes the Red Shirt tradition while also raising money and awareness for other LGBTQ charities. For more visit: https://www.kindredpride.org/
